December, 2006.
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the annual X-mas newsletter where I get the opportunity to extend my Season’s Greetings and to update you, my valued patients and clients, on the “happenings” at Dr. Lily Lo’s Dental Office and the MD Laser Skin Clinic & Facial Spa.
As usual, I sincerely thank you for all for your support and loyal patronage this past year. I thank you, also, for your referrals to the dental clinic, the laser spa and especially, to our cosmetic dentistry and orthodontic (braces) services. I have been doing smile makeovers for over 16 years and giving someone a great smile is truly the most rewarding part of my job! I am very grateful to be your family dentist and with the opening of MD Laser on the 2nd floor, which was started three years ago in collaboration with my husband, Dr. Ken Lam, M.D., I hope to offer more than just great dental health, but other state-of-the-art laser and medical spa procedures that will help you look and feel great! More about that later…
First, by popular request, I am more than happy to provide an update on my two lovely, but nevertheless, hi-maintenance, children. As of Dec.22nd, I will officially be the mother of a full-fledged, teenage daughter (God help me)! Kaitlyn will be all of 13 years old (why does she keep reminding me?). Although I have not yet seen a mind-boggling transformation from a sweet, cheery, bubbly angel to a moody, pierced, fashion-afflicted monster, I’m warned that the good times are running out, and that I’d better start taking my vitamins and Valium now.
So far though, there have not been drastic changes in Kaitlyn’s social or emotional demeanour. Rather, I have noticed a sudden enhancement in Kaitlyn’s verbal and motor skills. She is like an octopus, readily able to multitask and engage in many activities simultaneously. I would often see her in our den, dressed in her favourite “butterfly” PJ’s and pink fluffy bathrobe, sitting in front of the computer typing away furiously, clicking on the “mouse” with lightning agility, MSNing and surfing the web, talking “teeny-bopper language” with her friends on her video phone, at same time listening to her IPOD, reading a textbook and eating a “cheesestick”. Yep, I’m gonna need a dental receptionist like that one day…
How’s my son? Well, let’s just slow down an eon or two… Tyler is a relaxed, happy-go-lucky 9-year old dude who loves sports and likes to “go-with-the-flow”, if you know what I mean. Recently, we went with our children to see “Casino Royale”, the fantastic new James Bond movie which I thoroughly enjoyed (I did cover Tyler’s eyes during all the kissing and “Ahem” scenes). But before we left for the movie, I sternly asked Tyler if he had any homework to do. He said “No”. After the movie, while we were getting ready for bed (it was already 10pm), Tyler came to me with a 5-page French story/dialogue in his hand asking me to help him memorize all of it before the test the next day! Well, can you hear the roof blow off my house? After I calmed down, Tyler denied that he lied to me because a French test was not “homework”, it was just “memorizing”. So, parents beware! Kids are cute, but oh, so sneaky…
Let’s move on to the dental office. First, I would like to congratulate Wendy, my front desk receptionist for the past 2 years. She gave birth in October to her first child, a healthy baby girl, Shariah! I’m sure you all remember Wendy, with her sweet, shy smile and her “big hair”. Yes, she has officially usurped Karen, my office manager; of that title with her elaborate, intricately, braided big hairdos. We sure miss her while she’s on her maternity leave but we look forward to having her back in the spring! We’ve also had to say a fond goodbye to Carrie-Ann, my long-time dental assistant/receptionist, because she has moved to a new house in Port Hope. Our very best wishes to Carrie in the future but you may see her fill-in occasionally!
Secondly, Dr. Rebecca Larmer (who soon will revert to her maiden name, Dr. Sharif), will be reducing her hours at my office to a part-time basis in order to look after personal affairs. As many of you know, she has been an integral part of my practice for the past 5 years, having been my full-time dental associate who has helped me maintain the high standards of quality dental care with the personal touch. Happily, Rebecca will remain with me on Mondays and most Saturdays in the New Year.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not have the stamina to work 11-hour days, 5 days a week. Therefore, I will soon be looking for a new associate dentist in the next year in order to allow me to accommodate those who need extended hours for dental care. In the meantime, however, I’m so very glad to have my friend and fellow U of T dental colleague, Dr. Shirley Ho, fill in on Wednesdays (the day I’m off to do some clinical teaching at the Faculty of Dentistry). Those of you who have met her and will probably agree with me that her caring and gentle demeanour reminds me of, yes, a Walt Disney Toothfairy! But don’t expect any under quarters under your headrest…
I hope that you will be supportive of these staffing changes to my office and I especially ask for your patience as we train our new, but devoted front desk staff. Remember that if you have any concerns, insurance or financial inquiries, please ask for my office manager, Karen (now better known as “ the lady with the two cute Shih Tzu’s”). Karen is in charge of all the financial accounts and will help you with any claims or estimates submitted to your insurance plan.
For those of you who are clients of the MD Laser Skin Clinic, I hope that you have received excellent service by my medical aestheticians, MaryJo and Katherine. We offer free consultations on your cosmetic skin concerns and we will refer you to Dr. Lam or to our neighbourhood dermatologist, Dr. Chantelle Ung if there are any medical issues. Other than laser hair removal, we now offer a variety of spa and medical grade facials, plus, microdermabrasion, Botox and Filler injections, and our very own private label cosmeceutical MD skin care products. It is my hope that you will enjoy the benefits of these medical spa procedures in a comfortable, personal and relaxed environment in our Suite 204. As an added bonus, and because you have read this entire letter, please visit our website at www.mdlaserskin.com and you can download a coupon for 10% off on your next laser or spa service. Also, by giving us your valid email address, you can enter our grand draw for a gift certificate valued at $1000. which can be used for any non-insured dental service or any MD Laser Skin Clinic service (some restrictions apply). Applicants for the draw must be of legal age, have an email address and be a current client of either the dental clinic or MD Laser Skin Clinic. *Draw will be held Jan 31st, 2007. Please note that this contest is not meant to be used as solicitation for new clients; it is simply my “thank-you” for your trust and also to expedite my eventual goal to be completely computer-dependent and “paperless”! Let’s face it…if you can’t beat’m, join’m (and save some trees!)
Finally, on a more serious note, I want to mention that, sadly, this year has marked the passing away of a few of my long-time patients who have been a memorable part of my life. My heartfelt condolences go out to their families and I will cherish my memories of them. I am, however, reminded that our health, family and friends are our most important assets, and that we must be grateful for our blessings everyday, not just at Christmas. May God bless you during the holiday season and in the New Year! I wish you all health and love, and peace!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from,
Dr. Lily Lo, Dr. Larmer, Dr. Zins, Dr. Ho, all our Hygienists and the entire MD Laser & Dental Team!!
